Maserati GranTurismo review

Overview

First appearing in 2007 (and gone in 2.19), the Maserati GranTurismo is a car that first and foremost gained respect through its spellbinding powertrains. Because for the rest you have to be lucid, it's a car that is neither dynamic, nor comfortable, nor technological nor even well finished...

And if we could hope for a spectacular rebirth, it is ultimately nothing, the line remains the most conservative there is. Indeed, it seems to be a barely modernized version of the previous one, with style codes that have chosen to stay in the past rather than being innovative and more current.
This lack of risk-taking seems to indicate that the brand is very far from having confidence in itself, and that can be understood!

The rear is particularly successful even if it lacks innovative aspects

Engines, Ride, and Handling

Technical level it is a chassis made of 65% aluminum which would be supposed to be brand new, one can obviously doubt it and imagine that a part has indeed been taken from its predecessor so much the measurements remain close (the reverse would also indicate that the chassis was really archaic or that the brand has nothing to do with its money wasting it redeveloping everything from the beginning, which I doubt).

The illustrations are very reminiscent of the Ferrari style in their staging.. Chance?

In terms of powertrains, there will be two offers, thermal and electric (showing that the brand is trying to move forward despite everything). Unsurprisingly, the thermal resumes the good old V6 Alfa Romeo which derives from the V8 Ferrari (with here more reliability from what we can conclude until today) and which sings under the dress of the Giulia (and Stelvio) QV.
It will be available in two versions, 490 hp (just to be under the psychological 500 hp ...) and 550 hp, with 0 to 100 km/h of respectively 3.9 and 3.5 seconds (302 km/h and 320 km/h). h peak, without typing error despite what these numbers might suggest: same digits composing them).

The electric gets something hairier with no less than 760 hp (tri-motor) and 2.9 seconds from 0 to 100 km/h.
The battery that operates it will be 83 kWh, and we can already see that this is an ordinary Model 3 Performance (82 kWh and 3.3 seconds) barely faster, showing that Tesla has wanted to hurt the entire automotive world (which must hate it) by desacralizing the performance of supercars.
Let's admit that the 320 km/h advertised in electric mode are impressive, and there should be either a small two-speed gearbox or very different axle ratios between the front and rear motors (with a longer ratio for the engine that takes care of the tip). But this is all just speculation.

Conclusion ?

Maserati GranTurismo review
