The next Honda CR-V is revealed in leaked photos.

The next generation of the Honda CR-V is expected on European roads in 2023. In China, the Japanese manufacturer recently presented several copies of its family SUV to the Ministry of Industry for approval procedures. Enough to let out some photos of the vehicle well before its official presentation.

The CR-V changes (almost) everything in style

The pictures confirm what leaked patent illustrations announced, namely less curves and less complexity. The sixth CR-V of the name adopts Honda's new aesthetic language and notably displays a marked visual kinship with the new HR-V. We notice a large plain grille, from which stretch the front lights are clearly refined compared to those of the current model, as well as an almost horizontal hood. The only element preserved almost as is: the large L-shaped rear lights rising generously on the uprights of the trunk. According to the technical data from this Chinese leak, this CR-V is 4.70 m long, 10 cm longer than its predecessor. The characteristics of the European version remain to be known, butthis significantly increased length could allow the vehicle to be offered with seven seats regardless of its engine, whereas only the 100% thermal versions have been able to offer this possibility on the current model.

A plug-in hybrid Honda CR-V announced

Like the rest of the Honda range, except for a few niche models such as the next Civic Type R, the future CR-V will be electrified automatically in Europe. A non-rechargeable e:HEV engine is expected and could develop 184 hp as on the current model or on the new Civic. This mechanism should remain available in traction and four-wheel drive. The future ZR-V, more compact, could also benefit from it. On the other hand, the CR-V will be the only one to receive a plug-in hybrid version badged e:PHEV,a first in Europe for Honda. But the specifications have not yet been communicated. It remains to be seen whether this will allow the Japanese SUV to experience a less discreet career than currently in our regions. If it appears year after year among the two best-selling models in this segment in the world, neck and neck with the Toyota RAV4, the CR-V is far from experiencing such sparkling success in France.
