Ferrari Purosangue: corner well negotiated?
It's a very complicated exercise which is all the more so when we are expected at the turn... Indeed, offering an SUV for the first time in a range of sports cars (and even supercars), especially when it is called Ferrari, is a balancing act that is not at all easy to achieve! Especially since the haters are waiting for them at the bend...
However, Ferrari has used many clever tricks to better pass the pill, and that's what we're going to see here. Because let's also remembered that we will have to compete with the Urus which, let's face it, ensured the blow as it was unlikely to do. The exercise for Ferrari was therefore even more complicated, with the mission of being at least as good as the Lamborghini.
Purosangue, really?

Let's start first with the very daring name, namely "thoroughbred". If there is a model on which I would have avoided this nomenclature, it is of course an SUV...
But we understood that the goal here was precisely to compensate for the fact that the size does not look very Ferrari, and that by forcing the line a little bit thanks to this name.
Despite everything, it still seems a little inappropriate because this name has more of a marketing and psychological purpose rather than a desire to find a name that would be more disinterested and therefore more "natural".
Undoubtedly, this Ferrari Purosangue is an ultra-marketed product that has been very well thought out and calculated, with probably more commercial ambitions than passion...
It is a daring choice to have dedicated the multimedia screen to the passenger only...

The smart tricks that Ferrari found
We can say that the Italians were cunning on this one, because beyond appearing even more sporty and slender than a Urus, the Purosangue (which clearly seeks to take over the style of Roma which is a hit in terms of sales) does less massive and clumsy than its competitor (we are still here at 2033 kg empty, and rather 2150 kg in running order. Ferrari communicating in a supported way on the lowest value, not very fair play).
For this, the prancing horse brand has chained the tricks to forget as much as possible that it was an SUV.
First of all the line, is slender while trying to mimic the look of a GTC4 Lusso-type coupe. And for once, those who like the look of an adventurer will remain unsatisfied, and will probably consider that there is little point in making an SUV if it should only be a Roma / GTC4 perched high on legs ( certainly we benefit from a high driving position, but it is what we generally try to avoid in a Ferrari, and more generally in a sports car). For my part, I find the line more interesting than on a Roma, because the profile here is more hollowed out/sculpted and characterful (and to tell you the truth I find the Roma banal and unattractive although its little retro side in the manner of a vintage E-Type may please).
This line is therefore particularly slender and sporty here thanks to the concealment of the door handles at the rear and this thanks to the antagonistic opening of the Rolls Royce-style doors. Hard to believe that all this is 5 meters long (4.97 exactly)!
This type of door brings both standings (see Rolls) while respecting the sporty soul of the car (see RX-8), so it's all good even if in use it must end up tiring ( but hey, when showing off is your priority, you're able to make sacrifices... It's a bit of the pathetic side of some supercars by the way).
To make you forget even more about its SUV side, the interior has been fitted out to hide it as much as possible, with in particular 2 seats in the back instead of 3. We are far from a typical utility and practice.
Let's not forget either how the rear spoiler was integrated, with a hollow rear window that gives sportiness and originality (it also makes you forget that it's an SUV once again).
To sum up, the front and rear are reminiscent of the Roma while the profile (especially the glazing) is more of the GTC4 Lusso.
V12 engine: funny choice...
On the engine side, the brand seems to have gone too far... Indeed, for the moment it is the naturally aspirated 6.5 V12 (so characteristic) that has been chosen for the launch. It seems clear that his goal is to win the pecker contest by wanting to have the biggest one, and it also shows a kind of immaturity in the technical choice (or a market study that proves that it was necessary to do so ).
Because it is probably one of the best engines in the world, it is much less suitable here than the basic V8 of the brand (the one used in the basic berlinettas, as well as the Porto Fino). The V8 would have been much more interesting because it would have made the Purosangue much more versatile (consumption and torque at low revs due to the turbo) and manageable (weight and weight distribution, and in this regard the German Getrag box are at the rear transaxle way).
I, therefore,e seems to me that the launch is done with the V12 to win the pecker competition concerning competition, and therefore to afford a strong image with all the "immature" (I am also a lot but I have limits) who seek to have the most powerful and voracious machine (because we live in a funny era where people are proud to consume more than 20 liters per 100 km, even if in the end this shows a pitiful performance of their mechanics). In short, mechanically speaking the V12 of 725 hp (3.3s the 0 to 100 and 310 km/h) was developed to pass in front of the top competition: Bentayga Speed and Urus Performante. Maybe the brand wants to win a few fights outside of F1? History of not cultivating "the loose" too much on all grounds, because let's admit that F1 has been detrimental to their image lately (ner, when you know what it costs! So paying to degrade,e must hurt pure morale... ).
Box / Transmission
Here we take up the very atypical Ferrari 4X4 system that Clarkson had widely criticized for its lack of sliding feeling. The brand has therefore kept this system a little gas factory (PTU) because in any case, it would be expensive to redevelop one.
