The Chery Tiggo 2 Pro is an SUV for urban use, offering good technical characteristics, among which its agility stands out. Its price is an excellent selling point, defying all competition on the world.
The urban SUV segment has become a battleground these days thanks to looking for a basic, no-frills car. In addition, the arrival of Chinese brands in the market has begun to change the criteria for consumer choice, their models defy traditional characteristics and their presentation is undoubtedly different from European vehicles, for example. One such vehicle is the Chery Tiggo 2 Pro. Starting at 155,000 DH, it's the second cheapest new SUV you can buy locally, with only the smaller Mahindra KUV 100 being more affordable.
In terms of styling, the Chery Tiggo 2 Pro adopted the same intricately designed grille from the Tiggo 7 Pro, which makes the two Tiggo fairings almost identical. If it weren't for the Hyundai Kona-style stretched headlight design, the two would be hard to tell apart. It should be noted, however, that on all trim levels, the Chinese SUV is equipped only with LED daytime running lights. That said, the side profile and rear of the small Chinese SUV are taken from the older generation, except for the new piano black trim that connects the two C-shaped LED taillights
.
Unlike the literal facelift on the outside, the cabin of the Tiggo 2 Pro gets a major overhaul. The dash is more driver-centric this time around, while the plastic-riddled cabin gets soft-touch materials along with a chunky D-shaped leather bar. The various textures on the dash polymers are definitely welcome, giving you the illusion that you're driving a more expensive car. However, piano black covers a lot of surface in the center stack, and it generally tends to age badly.
In addition to the beauty of their fabrics, the colors of the seat upholstery are well combined.
Chery has added a driver's seat height adjuster this time around, which is a welcome feature given the absence of the steering wheel adjustment. The digital instrumentation is also more unified, with its white-on-black theme and orange accents giving off a crisp appeal. Front space is fair enough for the size of the car. On the other hand, you will be better received at the back. Indeed, the vehicle is very generous. It seats five, but best to stick with four for a more comfortable trip. The cargo space (420 litres) is deep and correct. Even if it is not flat, the floor is not a problem, because the loading height is not high.
The Tiggo 2 Pro's 9-inch infotainment system is a huge selling point for its mostly young target audience, and the Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration is nice.
Chery kept the handy cruise control. This is a little extra, as are the reversing sensors and the camera with dynamic guidelines, which are excellent features considering the price of the vehicle.
Six airbags and emergency brake assist round out the safety feature package.
CVT Transmission
The most notable change in the Tiggo 2 Pro's powertrain was the switch from a conventional 4-speed torque converter to a continuously variable transmission (CVT). That said, the CVT did help increase the refinement of the car through smoother rides. However, power delivery falls short at mid-range speeds (an expected CVT trait), so overtaking should be done with good measure.
The combination of 107bhp and 140Nm of torque from the 1.5-litre petrol engine isn't negligible, but it's not sent very well to the front wheels. The Tiggo 2 Pro's brakes could also use some help, as you have to press harder before you get a good result.
Beyond that, the Tiggo 2 Pro is nimble on the road and around town. Its steering has excellent feedback and is very decisive, making journeys on winding roads safer. The suspension is as stiff and forgiving as the older generation.
Verdict
All in all, if you're looking for a small SUV at a good price, the Tiggo 2 Pro should be on your bucket list. In this price range, buyers are very choosy, and they make sure that every peso counts. Chery will surely rely on arguments like the dimensions, the 5-year warranty and the list of standard features. The little Chinese remains the cheapest SUV after the Mahindra KUV 100, which is more of a raised city car. Moroccans will undoubtedly welcome it warmly for its value for moneyTechnical specifications
